BENTLEY

Bentley is a male Yellow Labrador Mix .
Bentley is fully sighted and hears fine.
We rescued Bentley from Summit County Animal Shelter in Akron Ohio on 1/13/05
Bentley is approximately 1 year old and weighs in at 57 pounds
Bentley is up to date on all his vaccinations and tested negative for heartworms
Bentley's fecal test was also negative
Bentley was neutered on 1/28/05
We had to postpone Bentley's original neuter date of 1/21/05 because presented with Kennel Cough
3 days after we rescued him from the animal shelter
Bentley's neuter stitches were removed on 2/4/05 and Bentley is completely healed from his surgery

Bentley is a very sweet and loving dog with a layed back personality
Bentley is not hyper or overbearing at all.
Bentley has pleasant and friendly personality
Bentley is totally non-alpha with other dogs
Bentley loves one on one attention and loves to be petted and hugged.

Bentley already knows "sit", "lay", "give me paw" and "no"
Bentley walks like a perfect gentleman on a leash and does not pull at all.
Bentley has discovered the joys of "bully sticks" since he's arrived in rescue and loves to spend time chewing on
Bully sticks or cow's hooves
Bentley is slightly underweight but his appetite is good so he should gain weight easily.
Our deaf Bull Terrier rescue pup Blake has taught Bentley the joy of dog toys and Bentley quite enjoys
his toys now and initiates play with the other dogs.
Bentley especially loves Tess the Golden Puppy who was saved from the same shelter.
Bentley watches over her as if he is her "big brother" and plays all her silly
puppy biting games happily with Tess.

Bentley gets along great with other dogs of any size and also is fine with the cats in his foster home
Bentley pays no attention whatsoever to the cats.
Bentley is housebroken and crate trained although Bentley has free run in his foster home with no problems
When left alone in the house with the other dogs allowed free run Bentley is found quietly sleeping
upon his foster parents return home.

Bentley was facing euthanasia at the kill shelter as he was not showing well at the shelter.
Bentley was very depressed and just layed in his cage looking very sad and when taken out of his cage
he was very scared and would tuck his tail under him and shake like a leaf.
Bentley was picked up as a stray dog in Summit County

Bentley is such a sweet and loving dog
It is obvious that Bentley has been well socialized and was a loved pet prior to winding up in the kill shelter
Bentley came out of Summit County Animal Shelter in nice condition he was clean and flea free
Bentley has a liver colored nose and the darker yellow stripe along his back like a purebred yellow Labrador
We are guessing he may be mixed with German Shepherd as he is thinner built than a purebred yellow Labrador.

Our Director drove to Summit County Animal Shelter specifically to save Bentley as he reminded her so
much of our recently adopted Blind Labrador Puppy Belvedere and she was aware that Bentley was in danger
of being euthanized and we couldn't let that happen to such a sweet boy!
(The remaining 30 dogs at the shelter were euthanized two days after we saved Bentley )

Animal Shelters nationwide are filled with Labrador mixes and many Labrador mixes are killed daily
in kill shelters all over the country.
The only solution to this overwhelming problem of sweet dogs like Bentley being killed by the tens of thousands
each year is to make sure EVERYONE spays and neuters their pets to prevent unwanted litters
and a constant inflow of stray and unwanted pets being brought in or dropped off at kill shelters nationwide.
