HONEY
2-3 Years Old

(Photo taken at Gateway Animal Clinic 12/29/06)
Honey is a Deaf Boxer with the most gorgeous blue eyes
Honey entered rescue with CODA on 12/29/06
CODA saved Honey from the Mahoning County Ohio Dog Pound
Honey was scheduled to be euthanized by the use of a heartstick on 12/29/06
We had to really rush to save Honey in time as we were notified about her
on 12/27/06
Honey didn't stand any chance of adoption due to her deafness and her poor
medical condition
This is a rear view of Honey upon arrival at our Vet's office immediately
after being saved from the shelter
Honey weighed in at 37.5 lbs and should weigh about 60 lbs at her proper weight
Honey was very dirty, skin and bones, ears filled with mites, tail bleeding
from happy tail
severe flea dermatitis, and through it all very friendly, happy and wagged
her tail during her first vet exam

( Look at those gorgeous blue eyes)
Honey will be moving to our Calvert City Kentucky foster home on saturday
12/30/06
Honey is currently being medically boarded at our vets office this evening
until her transport in the morning
Honey was tested for heartworm today we'll know the results soon
Honey also received antibiotic shots and other medications today
Dr. Brian would like to see Honey gain 30% of her current body weight in the
next few weeks
If she doesn't then we will need to do complete blood panels, urinalysis etc
to determine
if her organs are functioning correctly to assimilate food intake
Total Cost of Honey's Vet Bill today= $135
UPDATE
Honey felt a bit better this morning after having a good bath yesterday and
having the fleas all over her killed
Honey received a capstar yesterday upon arrival at the vets and was also frontlined
today before leaving the Vets office
We put a nice warm sweater on Honey for her transport to KY
We also put two secure collars on Honey for her transport along with two leashes
Honey's luggage was waiting in the CODA van for her trip to our KY foster
home
The Vet techs all commented on what a wonderful, sweet dog Honey was while
in their care
Honey climbed right into the crate in the SUV she was riding to KY in without
any hesitation
Honey was then given a pig ear to chew on which she enjoyed thoroughly
She ate another one about midway to KY
Honey's luggage included, 20 lb bag of high calorie puppy food, plus a case
of 22 oz canned food
Pig ears, cows ears, several toys, extra collar, her medication and medical
paperwork
We also added a package of Missing Link Formula and a bottle of clorhexiderm
medicated shampoo ,to start Honey on the path to wellness
Honey arrived safely in KY this evening and her foster family said she was
being very good with the kids
and was very sweet and in great spirits upon arrival.

a thorough bath

Honey's rear end is starting to get some muscle tone and meat on her bones
Honey is doing fine with the resident kitty's in her foster home
Honey is perfectly fine with the young children in her foster home also
Honey is housebroken
Honey will be spayed once she regains her health and puts more weight on.
Updated photo's coming soon of Honey
UPDATE 2/10/07
Honey now weighs 55 pounds and is eating well and gaining weight nicely without
any apparent problems
Honey is exhibiting a bit of food aggression with the other resident dogs
at her foster home but that is very normal behaviour
for a dog who's been starved almost to death prior to arrival in rescue
Honey's foster parents report
"She now weighs 55lbs.She is still having a hard time with food aggression
and the cats, but nothing that we can't handle. We just feed her when everyone
else is outside and at least she just chases the cats, not trying to hurt
them. Heaven doesn't like her so much, but at least all I have to do is shake
my finger at him and he stops what he is doing. She is very infatuated and
flirty with Buddy, our lab mix. Anyway, I think she is going to be fine. She
is very loving and likes to snuggle. We don't have to crate her too much anymore
unless it's for a timeout when she gets too aggressive. Just wanted to give
you an update. Hope you are well!"
Lori
UPDATE 4/8/07
Honey now renamed " Lilly" by her foster family was spayed today
and also had an umblical hernia repaired while under anethesia for her
spay surgery. Honey ( Lilly) weighed in at a whopping 67 POUNDS at the Vet's
office today.
Honey has almost doubled in weight since arriving at CODA
Honey still could use to gain a bit more weight as her tail bone is still
a bit prominent but she is looking so much better now
Honey is still a bit food aggressive but that is understandable due to her
being starved nearly to death
Honey has a very loving nature and is doing fantastic in her foster home
Honey's foster parents plan on adopting Honey and will be sending us updated
photos's of Honey ( Lilly) very soon for her webpage
FINALLY UPDATED PICTURES FROM HONEY'S NEW PARENTS:)
