C.O.D.A
(Cleveland Ohio Dog Advocates)

THE LAND PURCHASE

C.O.D.A. recently purchased an additional lot of land next to our main foster facility
in Cleveland Ohio
The land was in pretty poor condition and housed a rental house which burned down last fall
Our Director extended her personal credit lines in order to facilitate this purchase for C.O.D.A.

C.O.D.A. was able to purchase the land for $5,000 which was a very reasonable price
for this lot which is 180' x 56 ' in size
This is how the land looked on the day of purchase

Doesn't look so bad is what you're thinking right?

Well let's take a closer look at what we're dealing with. Let us walk about 2/3 of the way into the lot

Let's walk toward the back property line now

This is the left side property line we're approaching now

The additional land will enable us to have a larger play/exercise area for the rescue dogs
and enable us to provide more shelter/feeding areas for the stray/feral/homeless cats in the area also
This land purchase will also give us the room for future building of a facility to house more rescued special needs dogs
OUR HOPE IS TO USE THIS LAND AS A SPECIAL NEEDS OFF LEASH DOG PARK
for area Deaf and Blind dogs and to hold training, education, and socializtion outdoor sessions
for special needs dogs and their owners here in the Cleveland area.
WE NEED YOUR HELP IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO PURCHASE
ADDITIONAL FENCING AND MATERIALS NEEDED TO SECURELY FENCE IN THE LAND
SO IT CAN BE SAFELY USED FOR THE SPECIAL NEEDS DOGS

OR ORGANIZATON THAT SUPPORTS SPECIAL NEEDS DEAF AND BLIND DOGS
WE NEED A TOTAL OF 35 MORE SECTIONS OF FENCING TO COMPLETE THE FENCING PORTION
OF THIS PROJECT

19 DAYS AFTER PURCHASE WE HAVE MADE MAJOR PROGRESS ON THIS PROJECT
OF TURNING THE VACANT,NEGLECTED LAND INTO USEFUL OUTDOOR SPACE
FOR THE RESCUE ANIMALS

We have completed fencing off the front of the lot including an entrance gate system all in 6' stockade fencing

All the weeds have been cut down or dug out and fencing has made progress along one side of the lot

We still need to fence the entire left side of the lot and along the rear property line on the lot
The ground was in terrible condition with many buried objects that would be a danger to the animals
The entire back portion of the lot needed about 2 ft of soil totally removed due to buried glass and metal objects near the area
the burned house was located
We have removed a lot of the rubble, rocks, debris, downed tree limbs etc

There are a lot of buried dangerous objects such as this iron pipe that we are currently digging out of the land

Also notice the size of the big concrete pillar above we found half buried in the middle of the lot
Bandit enjoyed watching Our Director's husband working on the lot even though he really wanted to run
and play the lot is not securely fenced and there are still dangerous objects and glass that have to be dug out of the dirt

All of the work completed to date has been done solely by our Director's husband Jeff
He's devoted every spare moment on his one day off a week ,making progress on getting the lot
ready for use by the rescue dogs!
UPDATE 9/1/07
