NINA

ONCE AGAIN DONATIONS ARE NEEDED FOR
NINA
9/23/06 NINA REQUIRED EMERGENCY TREATMENT FOR A TORN PAW PAD
NINA HAD TO BE SEDATED AND HER PAW REQUIRED SEVERAL STITCHES
TOTAL COST $150 TO REPAIR NINA'S PAWPAD

Nina is quite the little escape artist. She is the only dog here at our main facility who does not have free run
of the fenced in play area because she can easily climb the six foot stockade fencing
Nina is tethered to a 12 foot long airline cable in addition to being inside the fenced play area
Nina also has broken numerous collars so Nina always has 2 collars on with both collars
hooked via heavy duty latches to the 12' long airline cable
The little magician managed to snap the airline cable about a foot from her collar attachments on the evening
of 10.23.06 and climbed the fence. We immediately went in search of Nina but Nina never trys to run away
she escapes soley to chase squirrels and when we opened the secured gate Nina was waiting right outside the gate
holding her right front paw up in the air and it was bleeding profusely
Nina's paw had a major cut in the bottom of her paw pad between her toes
and she also had several more minor cuts/abrasions on the top of her paws
Nina's stitches were removed on 10/5/06 and her paw healed well
Nina goes on daily runs on leash with her foster dad in addition to her outdoor time on her cable
inside the fenced play area but when the squirrels walk the fence line teasing Nina she
is amazing at devising ways to escape to chase a squirrel
We tried to determine what Nina had cut her paw on to prevent a reoccurance but the trail of
blood ended next door and we were unable to find any protruding wires or potential causes on or near the fence line
that could have caused the damage to her paw pad and paws.

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR
NINA'S
EMERGENCY AURAL HEMOTOMA SURGERY
TOTAL SURGERY BILL =$180
THANK YOU TO AMY GOEPFERT OF CLEVELAND OHIO
FOR HER DONATION WHICH COVERED NINA'S SURGERY BILL
5-17-06

Nina required surgery today for a hemotoma in her right ear.
Nina has had a reoccuring ear infections in her right ear since her arrival but the infection has always cleared
up with antibiotic ointments and antibiotic treatment
Last night Nina's right ear filled with blood between the tissues of her ear flap requiring surgery
to repair the hemotoma
Nina came through the surgery fine and was busy investigating the kitties on her way out of the Vet's office this evening
Nina will require a lot of medications and special care for the next 3 weeks until her sutures are removed

UPDATE 6/7/06
Nina's sutures were removed today and her ear is healing nicely

UPDATE 7/6/06
Nina's ear has healed perfectly. Nina has been going for a ride daily in the CODA van
and Nina is now able to ride in the van without getting car sick or stressed out.
Nina has also been going jogging daily with her foster dad and loves her daily jog
and Nina jogs so perfectly on her leash and is so well behaved during her outings
Nina has decided she really likes Shirley and is being very gentle and sweet with Shirley
Nina is pretty much over all her dog aggression issues except for her dislike of GIANT dogs.
(Specifically the Great Danes in her foster home)
Nina plays with Sparky and Bandit and Blake without any problems
Nina still likes to chase the kitties but will not hurt them and if she catches up with one she will pause
to give the cat a chance to escape:)

Nina is a Catahoula Leopard Dog Mix
Our best guess is Nina is mixed with German Shepherd
She is fully sighted and hears fine.
Nina was saved from a kill shelter in Princeton WV and arrived at CODA Dog Rescue on July 7th 2004.
She was on owner surrender so was facing immediate death at the shelter in WV.
Her previous owner was deployed overseas to Iraq which was why she was surrendered to the shelter
Nina was a spoiled only pet in her previous home

Kim Kleppel in NY paid for Nina's Shelter fee's and paid a driver to get Nina safely to CODA
Dog Rescue in Cleveland to save Nina's life.
Nina would like to thank Kim for saving her from being gassed to death in the WV kill shelter.

Nina is a wonderful dog that walks perfectly on a leash, and she loves to go for walks.
Nina is fine when meeting other dogs when on a leash but is quite over rambunctious when allowed off leash
with other dogs as she has a high energy catahoula style of play
Nina knows many verbal commands such as
Sit, Lay, Stay, Give Me Paw
Nina is very intelligent and learns very easily.
Nina is very sweet and gentle in nature and has wonderful watch dog tendencies.
She always lets us know if someone is near the fence line or near the property lines.

Nina is scared to ride in cars because Nina was involved in a rollover car accident with her foster dad
coming home from the park during the summer of 2004
Nina suffered only minor cuts and scrapes in the accident but was thrown from the car and was quite tramatized by
the experience.
We are working on trying to help get Nina over her fear of cars since the accident but Nina has consistently vomited
anytime she rides in a car since the accident.
UPDATE 6/7/06
Nina successfully rode to the Vets office and back without throwing up in the CODA van today
She is starting to get over hear fear of cars since the accident

Nina would make a wonderful agility dog as she has phenominal balance and jumping ability
runs like lightening and is very smart and learns new things quite easily.
Nina would also make a wonderful service assistance dog due to her love of humans and her
her very high intelligence levels

Nina has made major improvements in her social skills with other dogs. She did not get along well with the other dogs when she first came into rescue. Nina was an only pet in her previous home per her surrender paperwork.
Nina took a liking to Belvedere our little Blind Labrador puppy and truly loved to play with Belvedere until he found
his perfect home. Nina now enjoys playing with the younger puppies here in rescue and with Blake our Deaf Bull Terrier
Nina is intimidated by the Great Danes in her foster home and will show defensive aggression when they are near her.
We really believe Nina just never was allowed to play with other dogs before coming into rescue.

Nina is the perfect dog for someone who has no other animals in the home

Nina is WONDERFUL with children and any humans she's ever met!

Nina is very eager to please her caretakers and loves one on one attention and petting.
Nina loves to be brushed.
Nina would also do well in a home with someone who likes to run and is looking for a running companion
Nina will definately not slow you down on your daily runs and will actually help to motivate you to keep on running:)

Nina puts the "Cat" in "Catahoula" as she has the balance and agility of a feline.
Nina can clear our four foot garden blockade gate with ease!
( We have six foot stockade fencing in our play areas)
She does well when crated so would be fine being crated while you work but she is also house broken
and totally non destructive if left alone unattended
Nina weighed in at 39 lbs at her vet exam the other day.

Nina has never had an accident in her crate and is housebroken.
She will cry if crated to let you know when she needs to go out!

Nina's adoption fee is $175.00
Nina needs to be on leash anytime she's outdoors even if your yard is fenced
Nina can easily climb over a six foot stockade fence so needs to either be leashed walked
or tethered when outdoors.
If tethered she should be protected within a secure fenced area to prevent other dogs or cats
from getting in Nina's play area.
Nina would be fine in a home with children.

DEFINATELY NO CATS
Nina does well with puppies especially male puppies
