OSCAR
(formerly known as)
Pierre

Pierre is the most adorable little male Toy Poodle I think we've ever met.

He sits up pretty, give kisses, and "gives paw" and immediately took to the name Pierre when he first came into rescue
Pierre was saved from the Lorain County Dog Pound in June of 2004
Pierre is neutered and up to date on all his vaccinations and bortadello
Pierre is housebroken and loves to ride in cars and rides very well.

Pierre was adopted into a loving new home in August of 2004 and his new mom named him Oscar

Due to a recent job position change Oscars mom contacted us asking us to find Oscar a new home because
she now has to travel several days and overnights every week and did not want to excessively have to board Oscar

So Oscar was returned to our rescue on Saturday Jan 29th 2005
We know Oscar will go through a very depressing adjustment period as he instantly loved
his new mom the minute he met her so we know this change is going to be very hard on our little Oscar
We will be screening new homes for Oscar as soon as he's ready to bond again and show indications
he's ready for a new loving home.
The following information was provided to CODA by Pierres first adoptive mom and we'd like to share it with any potential adopters.

I doubt you will see any major changes from the behaviours you reported to me when he was placed with me last August
He is friendly and good natured and responds affectionately with both adults and children. Even people who "report" they are not "dog-people" seem to be attracted to him and he to them.
He seeks and loves attention from anyone including total strangers and is eager and willing to follow them out the door- tail wagging
He barks at other dogs, but once they sort out the "alpha hierarchy" he settles in.
He seems to be more aggressive with females than male dogs and acts as if he were a "Big Dog"
I have only observed his behaviour with cats at a distance and then he barks at them as with other dogs
He is an excellent watchdog and will consistenly bark to alert you of any noises or people within his territory
On the other hand, he is easily stimulated by goings-on and at times can be a bit hyper. As with all dogs, he seems to sense and respond accordingly to the tone of the enviroment around him. If the enviroment is calm, he is calm-if the enviroment is chaotic, he responds in a hyper fashion. When over excited or anxious, he responds quickly to a calm voice and gentle petting.
He prefers to eat both in the early morning and in the evening about 1/2-3/4 cup at each feeding.
He has not demonstrated any food aggression with me whatsoever.
He loves chew bones and treats, but will have a tendency to over induldge in treats if allowed
He prefers to be carried up stairs but when prompted with the leash will "sprint up" them with great vigor and then is quite pleased with himself.
He loves to lie in the sun and look outside especially in the winter months.
He does not like being confined to a crate or small room area and is quite a talented escape artist:)
He likes riding in a car and handles it well, but of course, needs to be walked before and after arrival.
My groomer reports that Oscar responded well at each grooming, so this is not problematic for him.
He is not bothered by the touching or handling of his paws or ears.
He is fearful of loud noises and especially stamping of shoes (as when stamping to remove snow)
He also will "duck" if you kick off your shoes or if an object falls near him.
No doubt, he has had objects throw at him.
How sad!
As far as playtime he doesn't retrieve well and in fact can be fearful of a small ball or play object coming near him
However, he loves to be chased and have his fur ruffled by your hand
He does respond very well to correction when/if he becomes too excited and begins to nip
He use to "lower his head" when I would bend down to pet him, however this behavior has minimized with a gentle hand and verbal reassurance
Well, guess that's about it other than to say I can't begin to tell you how sad it is for me to give him up.
He is a wonderful accepting and affectionate dog and I will miss him dearly.
I pray that God will give me the courage and strength to accept the path that he has chosen for me even though that path
does not allow for Oscar in my life
I am truly grateful for the time that I have been given and hope that in some small way, I have made his life brighter,
if even for a brief time.
I know that he will guide your path in finding a new home for Oscar.
God bless you for the wonderful work you do for the "best" of God's creatures

ADOPTED

Pierre has been adopted by a wonderful couple in Warren Ohio. Pierre loved them immediately
and made himself right at home with his new Mom and Dad

Pierre was very depressed after being returned to rescue but Pierre was all smiles, "sitting up pretty"
and wagging his tail like crazy today when he met his new parents.
Pierre's new parents recently lost their 16 year-old Toy Poodle and were over joyed to have Pierre
come to live with them. Pierre is going to be one very spoiled little Poodle:)

Pierre has decided that he wants to be called Pierre again as calling him Oscar made him feel sad and miss his last Mommy
So Pierre's new parents have agreed to once again call him Pierre:)

We are seeking a home for Pierre where he will receive a lot of love and attention
Oscar is young approximately 5-6 yrs old Toy Poodles have a life expectency of approximately 12-15 years
and has an energetic adorable personality.

We are seeking a home with no cats as Pierre likes to chase the kitties.
