SCHATZIE
SCHATZIE- MINATURE SCHNAUZER
Schatzie is a Minature Schnauzer with the sweetest personality Schatzie can
see and hear fine
Schatzie was saved from The Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter in Cleveland Ohio
and arrived at CODA Dog Rescue on December 10th, 2004.
Schatzie was picked up roaming stray in Cuyahoga County Ohio
Schatzie spent three weeks at the Shelter with no families taking interest
in him and Schatzie needed to get out
of the kill shelter due to health issues as his health was deterioriating
in a shelter enviroment
Schatzie was not receiving the medical care he needed at the kill shelter
Schatzie's owners never reclaimed him so CODA stepped in to save Schatzie's
life and get him safely into rescue so we can get him the very urgent medical
care he needs
Schatzie came out the Animal Shelter so filthy you could smell the stench
on his body from several feet away
Schatzie had dried dog poop stuck to his rear end so badly he couldn't have
eliminated if he tried to
it took us hours of soaking Schatzie in a warm bath to remove the buildup
of dried poop from his body and rear end
Schatzie's stomach was extremely swollen and I'm sure this poor care by the
Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter Staff and Personelle
had a lot to do with Schatzies swelling issues Schatzie swollen stomach started
to immediately improve a few days after arriving here in rescue
The Cuyahoga County Animal shelter kept lying to us saying that Schatzie had
an owner hold on him
but when we sent someone in to adopt him they readily adopted him and there
was no owner hold on him
So the County Employees there lied to us at Schatzie deteriment
If the shelter had allowed us to save Schatzie a few weeks earlier it would
have been much better for his overall health and recovery
Schatzie was covered in his own urine and feces and developed a skin condition
from lack of proper grooming
Schatzie has a heart murmur and had severe abdominal swelling and we immediately
rushed Schatzie to our veterinarian
For complete CBC/Blood Panel testing, heartworm testing and evaluation
Schatzie's teeth are in bad shape but Schatzie cannot undergo any anesthesia
until we know more about the extent of his heart murmur and other health issues
Schatize is also not neutered yet due to his heart problems.
Schatzie let us clean his ears, brush his teeth and was a very good boy at
his first Vet visit too!
Our Veterinarian Dr. Brian commented on what a wonderful personality Schatzie
has.
Schatzie is a Minature Schnazuer who weighs in at 25 lbs.
Schatzie is housebroken and walks perfectly on a leash .
He also knows the commands "sit" , "lay down", "quiet", "go outside"
and is a very intelligent dog as most Schnauzers are and he loves to ride
in cars
and rides like a total gentleman in cars and loves looking out the window
Schatzie is fine with other dogs but likes to give a kitty a good chase if
given the chance
We're working on Schatzie's kitty issues and he has greatly improved on this
problem
Schatzie is estimated to be about 6 years old
Schatzie has a very loving personality for a Minature Schnauzer
Schatzie is completely housebroken and crates well
Schatzie's fecal test was negative for any parastites and his heartworm test
results were negative also!.
Schatzie is currently not available for adoption for medical reasons
Schatzie's shelter pull fee's and medical costs have already exceeded $200
The shelter charged us an additional $30 for his adoption fee because he wasn't
able to leave the shelter neutered
due to his health issues.
Schatzies first CBC blood panel alone cost us $87.00
So please donate to help us help Schatzie get back into good health
Our veterinarian Dr. Brian believes that Schatzie's heart mumur may be able
to be controlled through medication
but testing on 1/30/05 confirmed that Schatzie has Cushings Disease
Schatzie will begin his medical treatment for Cushings Disease immediately
Schatzie is also receiving daily dental care and brushings to try to improve
his dental issues without having to put him under anethesia due to the risk
of anethesia because of Schatzie's heart murmur
Schatzie is a very happy little fellow who loves his treats and will do most
basic commands for a "cookie"
Imagine 3 weeks stuck in a cage at a kill shelter and feeling very ill in
need of medication and proper grooming and care and instead being stuck in
a cage in your own urine and feces
Schatzie is very happy that CODA rescued him from the shelter!
Schatzie has no fear of the Great Danes in his foster home and he and our
Blind Great Dane Zeus
love to go out in the yard together.
They are quite a sight together too:) Big ole Zeus and tiny little Schatzie
happily hanging out side by side
It's very unusual for a Schnazuer to be so tolerant of other dogs let alone
dogs ten times his size
but that just goes to show what a wonderful dog Schatzie is
and he is a very confident little guy with a nice big dane sized ego
Schatzie is going to make someone a very special companion as he loves to
be held and cuddled

FURTHER UPDATE:1/23/05
We have received no donations to date to help with Schatzie's medical bills
which have already totalled over $425.00
Schatzie's blood panel testing showed a high level of alkaline/phosphates
blood testing has confimed that Schatzie has Cushings Disease
and we need to do an expensive test (ACH)to determine whether the tumor causing
the Cushings Disease is in his pititary or adrenal gland .
The test will cost $125
and if it is a pituitary tumor Schatzie will require medication which will
cost approximately $240 for the first months supply
The pills for Schatzie's treatment will cost $8.00 per pill
The medication will be needed on a regular basis until the pituitary glands
stop overproducing the hormone
causing the Cushings Disease and then can be given on a less frequent basis
to maintain the lower hormone production

UPDATE 2/17/05
Schatzie started his Lysodren chemo treatments this week and is doing well
so far on day 2 of his treatments
Schatzie was started on a raw diet last week to help his body have the energy
and nutrients necessary to withstand the chemo treatments and his energy levels
have actually increased over the past week.
_________________________________________________________________________________________
UPDATE 2/28/05
After ten days of chemotherapy with the drug Lysodren Schatzie had another
ACH blood test, ($125)and urinalysis($30)
on 2/27/05 and we were glad to find out that Schatzies Cortisol levels are
right where they should be after the ten day treatment plan
Schatzie will now go on a maintenance dose of the Lysodren 250 mg once a week.
Schatzie's energy levels have increased since we started him on a raw diet
the week before starting his chemotherapy.

UPDATE 3/27/05
Schatzie continues to do well and is on a maintenance dose of 250 mg of Lysodren
once a week for his cushings
and lasix daily for his heart condition.
Schatzie has even learned to get along nicely with the kitties in his foster
home
UPDATE 4/13/05
Schatzie went to the vet's today for his ACH Test -cost $200
We will know the results shortly when they come back from the lab

MEMORIAL FOR SCHATZIE
Schatzie
( Left us January 30th 2006)
Our wonderful little Schatzie died on Jan 30th 06 from congestive heart failure
( Sick Sinus Sydrome was the diagnosis)
Schatzie passed quickly and without any lingering pain or extended loss of
quality of life
We were very saddened to hear the news of Schatzie's passing as Schatzie had
wonderful
parents who loved him with all their hearts.
Schatzie spent the last seven months of his life
loved, spoiled and filling his new parents lives with much happiness and joy
because Schatzie had
the most wonderful personality and was such a very special little guy
Schatzie fell in love with his parents the minute he met them and they with
him
Our hearts and prayers are with Schatzie parents Dava and Ric at this sad
time
Dava and Ric opened their hearts and home to Schatzie knowing that he had
cushings disease and heart arrythmia's
Most people would not open their hearts to a dog with all of Schatzie's medical
problems fearing the great loss that comes with falling in love with a wonderful
pet, but the fact
that Schatzie needed so much special care and would be hard to adopt due to
his medical needs is what
drew his parents Dava and Ric to open their hearts and home to Schatzie
Like Schatzie ,Dava and Ric have hearts of gold and we couldn't have wished
for more perfect parents
for our much loved little darling Minature Schnauzer
As Dava told us when they adopted Schatzie
"We will love him for whatever time he is blessed to have left in life"
We just wish Schatzie could have spent many years enjoying all the love Dava
and Ric had to share with him but it was not meant to be
Schatzie left this world as a loved family member and will be waiting at the
Rainbow Bridge
for his parents knowing that he was one of the lucky rescue dogs who had all
any dog could wish for,
even if just for a short time
Schatzie will live on in all our hearts and memories
