SOPHIE

Sophie was found lying in a ditch in Georgia near Atlanta. The lady who originally found Sophie and contacted us about rescuing her believed Sophie was both deaf and blind as she didn't appear to be able to see nor hear. We had Sophie see a vet there in Georgia where she was treated for a horrible infection in her stomach and was also brought up to date on all her vaccinations and spayed. Sophie stayed at the vet's there in Georgia for over a week recovering from her life threatening health issues. Sophie is currently deaf due to the ear infections she was suffering from.

Sophie is a Shih Tzu mix and was horribly matted so badly that she couldn't even see. Once we had her groomed she was able to see but does have cataracts and is a senior dog but she see's well enough to get around fine. Sophie's ears are horribly infected. Our Veterinarian Dr. Brian believes her ears have had this horrible infection for at least two years now. So we know that poor Sophie has suffered at the very least two years of abuse and neglect.
We don't know how Sophie wound up lying in the ditch in the Atlanta Georgia area but thanks to a wonderful person there in Georgia who was willing to help us help Sophie we were able to rescue her. Sophie arrived on a transport we put together for her and arrived here in Cleveland on Saturday March 27th 2004.

Sophie is now living in a wonderful foster home here in Cleveland and was seen by our Veterinarian Dr. Brian on Monday March 30th.
Dr. Brian said Sophie's ears were so badly infected for so long that she has developed a cankerous sore inside her ear. She is currently on very expensive antibiotic treatments for her ears but her ears are clearing up nicely. Dr. Brian was suprised at how well Sophie's ears are healing. Sophie was having difficulties getting into a sit or lay position. It was taking her at least five minutes to be able to sit down so we had Dr. Brian check her hips and she received a shot for her hips and medication for her hip problems. Sophie's foster mom reported that Sophie is moving around much better since she received the shot and started on the daily medication for her hips. Sophie has to see Dr. Brian again in two weeks to see how she is progressing but things are looking up for Sophie.
Sophie's foster mom is totally in love with Sophie and Sophie is getting plenty of love and personalized attention to help her recover:)

Can you please help us to help Sophie get well?

Sophie is a very adorable and sweet little Shih Tzu mix with a loving personality who is probably enjoying love and proper care for the first time in her life.

This his how Sophie looked her first week in rescue. She was in a lot of pain and very weak.

Sophie's hair is starting to grow back in very nicely!
